PlaySimple Games Limited started in Bangalore back in 2014. Three co-founders — Suraj Nalin, Preeti Reddy, and Siddhanth Jain — built it from scratch with a simple idea: make word games people actually want to play every day.
The games they put out — Daily Themed Crossword, WordTrip, WordTrek, Crossword Jam, Solitaire — aren't trying to be flashy. They're the kind of thing you open on a lunch break and somehow finish commuting home. Millions of people do exactly that.
The company raised around $4.5 million early on from Chiratae Ventures and Elevation Capital. Then in July 2021, Swedish media group MTG bought them out for $509 million — a serious number for a studio making word puzzles.
Revenue hit INR 1,930 crore in FY2024. They have roughly 359 employees today, still based in Bangalore.
What's interesting about PlaySimple is how quiet the whole story is. No flashy pivot, no viral moment — just games people kept downloading and coming back to. In a space full of loud marketing and short-lived trends, that kind of staying power is harder to pull off than it looks.
