NSE IPO: Listing Targeted for September 25

NSE is targeting a September 25, 2026 listing with SEBI approval expected next week and price band on September 11. IFCI surged 12% and New India Assurance jumped 17% on NSE IPO buzz. Full details and key dates here.

India's biggest unfinished IPO story is finally moving toward its last chapter. Reports from CNBC-TV18 indicate that SEBI is likely to clear the National Stock Exchange's IPO next week, setting off a rapid sequence of events that could see India's largest stock exchange list on the very platform it built.

NSE is eyeing its listing on or before September 25, 2026 just ahead of Pitru Paksha, which begins September 26. The price band for the IPO is expected to be announced on September 11.

Following SEBI's clearance, NSE is likely to file an Updated Draft Red Herring Prospectus with the regulator before proceeding with the issue. CNBC-TV18 said it had written to SEBI for confirmation on the approval timeline and a response is awaited.

Why the Delay - And Why Now
NSE's IPO has been in the works for nearly a decade, delayed repeatedly by regulatory hurdles, legal proceedings, and governance concerns. The expected approval now follows the Supreme Court of India's dismissal of SEBI's appeals in the NSE co-location and dark-fibre cases two long-running controversies that had kept the exchange out of the public markets for years. With those legal clouds lifted, the path to listing has finally cleared.

Market Reacts Sharply to the News
Investors wasted no time pricing in the NSE listing buzz. Shares of New India Assurance Company hit a 52-week high of ₹229.30, surging 17 per cent on the BSE on the back of a six-fold jump in trading volume.

Shares of IFCI hit a multi-year high of ₹107.45, soaring 12 per cent on the back of a three-fold surge in trading volume quoting at its highest level since December 2007.

The reason both stocks moved so sharply is their indirect exposure to NSE. NIACL holds a direct 1.42 per cent stake in NSE. IFCI, meanwhile, has an indirect exposure through its 52 per cent holding in Stock Holding Corporation of India (SHCIL), which owns around 4.4 per cent in NSE.

In the past one month alone, IFCI surged 42 per cent while New India Assurance soared 33 per cent compared to a 2.2 per cent fall in the BSE Sensex over the same period.

What to Watch Next
For retail investors, the key dates being tracked right now are SEBI's approval expected next week followed by the Updated DRHP filing, price band announcement around September 11, and the targeted listing on September 25.

NSE is one of the world's largest exchanges by derivatives volume and runs the infrastructure that most Indian investors use every single day. Its IPO, whenever it does open, is expected to attract enormous interest from institutional and retail investors alike and will almost certainly be one of the most talked-about listings of the decade.

Price band, lot size, and issue size details are still to be confirmed. Watch this space.
