Ather Energy Limited was originally incorporated as Ather Energy Private Limited on October 21, 2013, and is headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka. It works in the electric two-wheeler manufacturing sector.
The company designs, develops, and in-house assembles electric scooters, battery packs, charging infrastructure, and supporting software as a vertically integrated manufacturer. Its product lineup includes the Ather 450 series and the Ather Rizta, supported by the Ather Grid public fast-charging network and the proprietary Atherstack software platform. Battery packs are manufactured in-house using lithium-ion cells procured from suppliers, while other components are outsourced and assembled at the company's facilities. As of FY24, the company had sold more than 100,000 vehicles in the year and held an 11.5% market share in the electric two-wheeler segment. Tarun Mehta is the co-founder and CEO, with Hero MotoCorp holding a 38.19% stake in the company.
Revenue from operations rose to Rs 1,753.8 crore in FY24 from a lower base in FY23, with the company reporting a loss before tax of Rs 1,059.7 crore in FY24. The IPO was a mainboard, book-built issue of 9,28,67,945 equity shares at a price band of Rs 304 to Rs 321 per share, comprising both a fresh issue and an offer for sale, listed on the BSE and NSE. As per the RHP, net proceeds from the fresh issue were proposed to be used for capital expenditure toward setting up a new electric two-wheeler factory in Maharashtra, repayment or prepayment of certain borrowings, funding research and development, and general corporate purposes.
